Employee Benefit Adviser had a question for us: Given that just a few years ago the term "private exchange" was echoing through the benefits space, why has Mercer moved away from it in terms of its own Mercer Marketplace 365? The clue is in the "365".
As US Health and Benefits leader Sharon Cunninghis explained in her interview with EBA, "…the notion of an exchange was around purely the enrollment experience and we've gone much further than that…equally as important [is] supporting people to help them better navigate the healthcare system throughout the year." This way, she says, cost savings for employers come not only from the movement of employees into lower-cost plan designs available through Mercer Marketplace 365, but also from giving them the tools to make better decisions all year long – information about choice of providers (including cost and quality measures); nurse support; easy access to second opinions; and more.
Rebranding Mercer Marketplace 365 was part of its evolution – which is ongoing. Personalizing the user’s experience on MM365 has already begun, and tapping new technologies to make the solution still more responsive to individual needs is where Sharon sees the future.
