Every two years, Mercer partners with CFO Research to survey senior finance executives to better understand the current status and future direction for plan sponsors for the biennial CFO survey.
For most defined benefit (DB) plans, the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funding relief legislation frees up flexibility on funding options. In addition, required contribution amounts are now insulated from market fluctuations, meaning that companies can better predict future contributions over the next several years.
“Expanding Funding Options”, the first of three articles in the final report illustrating the survey’s findings, highlights how companies are primed to make changes to their DB plans and how they are planning to take advantage of the funding relief legislation. Although expanded funding is not without certain pitfalls, this legislation lands in one of the most favorable policy and market environments sponsors have seen in years.
